About the festival
The 2nd Cypriot Cow Festival returns on October 25th, offering free admission and focusing on a native breed deeply connected to the island's history and natural environment.
Akrotiri provides a unique opportunity for a Sunday outing. On Sunday, October 25th, from 14:00 to 19:00, the Akrotiri Municipal District Square will host the 2nd Cypriot Cow Festival, inviting all ages to learn more about an animal closely tied to the Cypriot countryside.
The event highlights the Cypriot cow breed, which became gradually endangered after 1960. Through the festival, the need for its preservation is emphasized, as well as its place in the island's history, tradition, and environment.
Adapted to Cyprus's unique climatic conditions, the native cow is part of our natural and agricultural heritage. Special emphasis is placed on its contribution to the biodiversity of Akrotiri Meadow and the wider Kourion Municipality area, illuminating the relationship between preserving an indigenous breed and protecting its habitat.
The festival offers a chance to discover a lesser-known aspect of Cypriot nature and discuss its contemporary significance. It also serves as an invitation for a family excursion to Akrotiri, centered around exploring local heritage.
Information: Sunday, October 25th, Akrotiri Municipal District Square, 14:00–19:00. Free admission.
