About the festival
The 7th Trahanas and Halloumi Festival invites us to discover the making of two beloved products of Cypriot gastronomy.
Meniko is preparing to host the established Trahanas and Halloumi Festival for the seventh year, a celebration dedicated to two of the most characteristic products of Cypriot cuisine. The festival will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in the village square, offering a wonderful opportunity for an autumn outing.
The stars of the event will be trahanas and halloumi, two flavors that have nourished generations of Cypriots and continue to hold a special place on the daily table. Their recipes and preparation techniques are passed down from generation to generation, keeping alive the community's connection to its agricultural and livestock traditions.
Visitors will have the opportunity to closely observe the process of making fresh trahanas and learn more about the ingredients and stages required until it reaches its final form. Of course, the celebration wouldn't be complete without warm trahanas soup, which the public can sample along with various traditional treats.
Local products and preparations will also be presented at the venue, allowing visitors to better understand Meniko's gastronomic character. The flavors, aromas, and personal interaction with the people who continue to lovingly craft these products will be at the heart of the experience.
The program will be complemented by music and artistic performances, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all ages. Residents and visitors will gather around the same table, taste beloved flavors, and enjoy an evening full of Cypriot charm.
The Trahanas and Halloumi Festival is organized by the Meniko Community Council, aiming to preserve and promote the local gastronomic heritage. Through the event, older generations share their knowledge, and younger generations gain a better understanding of the products and customs that are part of the region's cultural identity.
