About the festival
Polystypos, one of the greenest villages in Pitsilia, is once again preparing to host its established Hazelnut Dance (Choros tou Fountoukiou). On Saturday, August 15th, residents, expatriates, and visitors will gather at Pantheon Cafe-Restaurant for a grand evening dedicated to tradition, music, and the product that has linked its name to the village's history.
Hazelnut cultivation is a significant part of Polystypos's agricultural identity. Hazelnut trees, thriving in the cool mountainous climate of the region, create a unique natural landscape and have been connected with the daily life, flavors, and memories of many generations of residents. The Hazelnut Dance was created precisely to honor this relationship and to keep the local tradition alive.
More than just a musical event, the Hazelnut Dance is a major community gathering every year. It is the evening when residents meet with friends and relatives, expatriates return to the village, and visitors have the opportunity to experience Polystypos's authentic hospitality firsthand.
This year's event promises live music, dance, and abundant cheer, all within the cool mountain atmosphere. Groups will once again sit around tables, sing, and dance, creating that familiar image of the grand August celebrations in Cypriot villages.
The Hazelnut Dance is part of the rich Summer Events Program of the Polystypos Community. Throughout August, the village hosts theatrical performances, cultural activities, music nights, bingo, and the unique "Fyntoukkoselinos" festival, which takes place within the hazelnut forest without electricity.
For those looking for an excuse to escape the city heat for a while, the event is an ideal suggestion for a summer excursion. A stroll through the picturesque streets of Polystypos, the coolness of the mountain, and a traditional celebration combine to create an experience that captures the genuine side of the Cypriot summer.
