About the festival
The two-day festival revives beloved flavors, arts, and images of the Cypriot countryside, with experiential workshops, free tastings, music, and dance.
Flasou and Linou once again join forces and invite us to the 6th Traditional Festival 'Back to the Old Days – Flavours of Milk'. The event will take place on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, starting at 16:30, offering a two-day celebration dedicated to Cypriot gastronomy and folk tradition.
As its title suggests, the festival aims to transport visitors back in time, reviving flavors, sounds, images, and professions of another era. The focus will be on milk and its products, which hold a special place in the daily life and culinary identity of the Cypriot countryside.
Throughout the two days, there will be live demonstrations of halloumi, anari, and trachanas making. Visitors can observe the different stages of the process, learn the secrets of each preparation, and better understand techniques passed down from generation to generation.
The program will also include the preparation of traditional dishes based on milk and its derivatives. Pourekia with anari and halloumi, galaktoboureko, and rizogalo are some of the flavors visitors will have the opportunity to discover. Stalls by local producers will be operating, where the public can taste and purchase various dairy products.
Experiential activities for all ages hold a special place in the event. Visitors will get a close look at the milking process, while a professional chef will present an interactive culinary workshop, giving participants the chance to get involved in preparing traditional milk-based dishes.
In parallel, a second collaborating chef will present more creative proposals, demonstrating how Cypriot dairy products can be used in both classic and modern recipes. During the festival, free tastings and treats will be offered by Charalambides Christis.
Traditional crafts and old professions will also be featured at the festival. Live demonstrations of pottery, pithkiavli making, boufa weaving, kolotzia decoration, and traditional vest sewing will introduce the public to skills directly connected with the cultural identity of the place.
The festive atmosphere will be complemented by live Cypriot music and performances by dance groups. Traditional sounds and dances will set the rhythm for the two days, creating an authentic setting that will transport visitors 'back to the old days'.
Through the collaboration of the Community Councils of Flasou and Linou, the festival aims to promote local gastronomy, producers, folk arts, and the cultural heritage of the region. At the same time, it offers a wonderful opportunity for an autumn excursion to the Solea valley and a chance to get acquainted with two of its authentic villages.
