Traditional flavors, Cypriot music, dances, and 'tsiattista' (folk poetry duels) will create a unique evening in the historic village square.
For the fifth year, the Agia Fyla Friends Association organizes a grand celebration dedicated to the carob and its former significance in the daily life of Agia Fyla. The event, titled 'Agia Fyla in the Carob Era,' returns on Friday, August 28, bringing back sights, tastes, and sounds from another era.
For many decades, the carob was one of the most important products of the Cypriot countryside. Its cultivation, harvesting, and processing were closely linked to the lives of the inhabitants, serving as a source of income and a fundamental ingredient in local gastronomy. Through the festival, Agia Fyla highlights this special relationship and introduces younger generations to a valuable part of its cultural heritage.
The historic village square will be transformed into a grand stage of tradition, where Cypriot music will meet folk dances and 'tsiattista'. The program aims to revive customs, traditions, and moments from the community's past daily life, creating the atmosphere of an authentic Cypriot gathering.
A special place in the evening will be given to flavors made with carob and carob syrup ('teratsomelo'). Visitors will have the opportunity to taste 'tzierkellouthkia,' a traditional Cypriot delicacy reminiscent of grandmothers' kitchens and the creative use of the region's few but precious ingredients.
The ticket price is €25 and includes a buffet meal and one drink. Music, dance, traditional flavors, and community gathering compose an evening that is not limited to entertainment but keeps the memory of Agia Fyla alive and brings it to the present.
