About the festival
The pomegranate has been an integral part of Ormideia's agricultural and cultural identity for decades. References to its cultivation and export appear in the Cypriot press as early as 1933, confirming its significant role in the community's production. Today, Ormideia's pomegranate remains one of the most recognizable local products and is once again celebrated with its own grand festival.
The 21st Pancyprian Pomegranate Festival will take place on Saturday, September 19, in Ormideia's Central Square. This is one of the community's most significant cultural events, attracting visitors from across Cyprus each year, combining tradition, gastronomy, creativity, and entertainment.
The celebration will begin with a traditional parade (patinada) through the village's main streets, followed by music from the Paspartou ensemble. Later, Philippos Ktenas and Rena Andreou will take the stage, presenting a folk program filled with song and dance. The evening will also feature dance groups from Ormideia's cultural associations, performing traditional and folk dances.
Naturally, pomegranate-based flavors will hold a special place at the festival. At dedicated stalls, visitors can sample and purchase natural juice, fresh pomegranates, granita, cocktails, palouze, soutzoukkos, loukoumia, and other creations. Additionally, street food vendors will offer various dining options.
The program will also include pre-festival experiential workshops and activities for all ages, offering opportunities for creativity, learning, and meaningful engagement with tradition. The festival is organized by the Ormideia Community Council and the community's cultural associations.
